We are building a hydrogen powered race car.

Motorsport has been at the forefront of transport innovation. We want to demonstrate that renewable fuels can perform as well as, if not better, than fossil fuels. And we want to have some fun along the way.

Our founder, Mike Irwin, has been racing classic cars for the best part of a decade. In the beginning, he saw this as a project that could influence motorsport enthusiasts and provide some fun and entertainment. It turns out it is generating the most interest of all projects, even to large organisations.

We have chosen a formula Vee as the platform for our first car for a few reasons. Unlike a sedan, it is immediately identifiable as a race car. The body can be removed by one person, exposing the chassis and powertrain. Between events, the technology can be on show.  In a previous life, the car we have chosen had been converted to run on an electric motor powered by batteries house in custom side pods. IT was given the racing number of 0 (zero) to symbolise zero emissions.

This is not the first hydrogen powered race car. There are a number of exciting and inspirational examples overseas. But to date, we don’t have any on Australian circuits. We plan to take the car all over Australia to spread the word.

We are currently seeking sponsorship to help us purchase components to complete the project and get us on the road – COVID willing.
